What Does a Severe Child Abuse Charge Mean?

Question by justjen86: What does a severe child abuse charge mean?
I am a foster parent of a child in Tennessee. The baby is the third child the mother had born addicted to drugs. They charged her with severe abuse, and she agreed to the charge. Yet, nothing else has happened. She didn’t have to go to jail, or anything, and the state has not terminated her parental rights. I was just wondering what a sever child abuse charge means? Is she still allowed to have children? Or is it like a sex offender? Is she allowed to work around children? Or is it she got the charge but nothing comes of it? Thanks for your help in clarifying!

Aggravating circumstances of physical or sexual abuse of a child under 17 or a child with physical or mental disabilities. Your local police will have the info of whether she is a registered sex offender or not.
