I Was Just, Terminated From My Job, Because of False Accusations of Drug Use?

Question by : I was just, terminated from my job, because of false accusations of drug use?
I was hired by a security company, and they transferred me to Nashville Tennessee, after being there three days, I was confronted by a manager who said, ” We, have a few guys who say that you may have a drug problem.” He went on to tell me that I was fired and was going to be sent home. I have put a lot of hard-work and effort into this job, and to be fired because of hearsay, is rather disappointing. I asked around the office, and was given the name of a person who, according to my manager, I “solicited for ecstasy.” He said that it was an untrue statement. I do not do drugs and I’m just wondering what I should do to remedy this. A few of the other guys I recently worked with said I should sue. What do you think?
They also wouldn’t accommodate me with a simple drug test… which I would have passed.

What would you sue them for? You are an at will employee, which means they can terminate your employment even if it is for a bad reason, like thinking you have a drug problem when it is not reasonable to do so. Normally if what you said happened was true I would be inclined to think that they fabricated the reason so they could fire you for cause and not have to pay for your unemployment benefits but you wouldn’t be entitled to unemployment benefits after working only 3 days for them.

While relocation for a job can sometimes give the employee quasi-contractual rights in some states, this is usually only in the context of rescinding a job offer so since you were actually employed it probably is not applicable here.

I would recommend moving on and not even listing this job on your resume since it was only 3 days.
