Is Drug/alcohol Addiction a Disease or a Weakness?
Question by Anna Nonamous: is drug/alcohol addiction a disease or a weakness?
Ive heard someone say that you wouldn’t get mad at a cancer victim for getting cancer and an addict is just as helpless in their condition. (Im not talking about social drink and/or drugs, but when a person throws their whole life down the tubes in pursuit of their intoxication) Is that their choice or are they truly at the mercy of something flawed in their DNA??
Thanks to all so far that have stayed within the question…I posted this in health also and seem to be getting alot of “god” responses, when Im more interested in the genetics vs will aspect.
yeah but………….out of the millions of casual users, its a minority that actually become addicted, wouldnt that imply that there may be a genetic flaw that so inclines them in that direction.

i personally think that it is there own choice. they just try to cover up their problems more and more and then eventually they need it so badly and they try to make it seem as great as it did the first time. that they keep doing it until they find it or get treatment. or just quit on their own.
but its their choice.
unless their parents did it and it messed up the child somehow to where it need a prescribed medication. but that’s different.
